Illustrate infamous local Santa Cruz mountain bike traills, visually depicting the trail names without actually spelling them out. It’s taboo to share the location of a secret riding spot or surf break, so we kept it on the down low. If you know, you know.
The story of Another Bike Shop begins in 1987 on the west side of Santa Cruz near UCSC and Wilder Ranch where some of the most notable riding exists in NorCal.
At the time, mountain biking was primarily cross country, hard tail riding. Suspension was born soon thereafter and completely changed the scene. ABS emerged as the hardcore mountain bike shop in town, catering to aggressive downhill riders. ABS wanted to brand the culture of mountain biking by partnering with local artists to create apparel focused on iconic local trails. The shop owners presented us with a handful of possible trails, from which we chose Star Wars along with Magic Carpet; both UCSC trails that are near and dear to us after many an excursion into campus.
It was important to find the right artist so we asked everyone and quickly found Chris. I knew he was perfect the minute I walked into his office. He had a life size R2D2 in the entry way! I was thrilled…he understood what we were looking for and better yet, he’s a rider. The Star Wars trail tee depicts the attitude and surroundings of Santa Cruz. The shirt is perfect.
